Mission

ON WHAT WE WORK?

Monopol Warszawski Association was founded in 2001. Among the founders there were people connected with tourism business – guides, art historians, journalists, members of the local authorities and those to whom the future of Warsaw heritage isn’t indifferent. The society constantly works with Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Warszawy (Warsaw’s Friends Association) and Związek Artystów Scen Polskich (Polish Actors Association).

Our aim is to modernize the city but preserve and remember it's history at the same time. We are trying to add new spirit to the old postindustrial architecture. We are therefore working on transforming postindustrial areas into art and cultural centers.

Monopol Warszawski Association cooperates with cultural and touristic organizations such as Fundacja na Starej Pradze, InfoPraga, ‘to tu’ Tourist Office. Our work had a great impact on the development of those entities.

The Society is a member of Związek Stowarzyszeń Praskich (Union of Pragas Associations).

Monopol Warszawski Association is also organizing courses and trainings for tourist and tour guides.

REVITALIZATION OF OLD PRAGA – SAVING THE UNIC ATMOSPHERE OF THE OLD DISTRICT

We are working on keeping the history alive. We revitalize it. We do it because the owners of old tenements, houses and manufactures have gone and there is no one to look after their heritage.

Our work is concentrated on the cultural diversity of the district. We are trying to bring back the memories of interwar period, trying to save the legacy of the inhabitants of Praga: Poles, Jews and Russians who lived together in harmony and understanding. We are protecting and revealing Praga's monuments and relicts, such as shrines and praying houses. We are also working on revealing the unknown history of Praga's uprising. Adding to that, we are also taking part in Pragas cultural life – arranging cultural events, supporting exhibitions and cooperating with artists.

INITIATIVE INCUBATOR

In our opinion Praga is a great undiscovered touristic district which gives a lot of opportunities. The Assosiaction wants to encourage polish and foreign tourists to Praga by preparing adequate background. The concept establishes generating a suitable and accessible tourist-service base. The revitalization of the building at Targowa 56 Street (Mitners tenement) and it’s adaptation for a center of traditional handmade and manufacture, or creating a hotel at 11 Listopada Street are the main parts of this idea. What is important the concept includes employment of Praga inhabitants.

We should also remember that Praga is going to be the direct host of EURO 2012. From that perspective we would like to create a good atmosphere for all visitors, so that they could remember Praga.

All those activities are taken from the statute od Monopol Warszawski Association. In which we declare to promote culture, research and education connected with the project of revitalization of Old Praga district.
